Most guys make an approach weird before they’ve even said anything.
They hover.
Circle the area twice.
Pretend to look at their phone.
Stand close enough that she can feel a human presence nearby, but not close enough to understand why.
Then, after a full minute of psychological warfare, they finally say:
“Excuse me, sorry, um, can I ask you something?”
The good news is that approaching a woman without making it weird is actually pretty simple.
You do not need the perfect line.
You need decent timing, clear intent and enough social awareness to notice how she responds.
1. Approach Like You Meant to Approach
If you decide to talk to her, walk over normally.
Do not slowly materialize beside her like a Victorian ghost.
Stand at a normal conversational distance, make eye contact and speak clearly. If you’re nervous, that’s fine. You do not have to fake some hyper-confident character.
You just need to be understandable.
A simple opener works:
“Hey, I saw you over here and wanted to come say hi. I’m Avery.”
Or:
“Hey, this is random, but I thought you were cute and wanted to meet you.”
That’s enough.
The purpose of an opener is to open.
It is not a Broadway audition.

2. Pick a Reasonable Moment
Being willing to approach does not mean ignoring obvious context.
If she is crying, sprinting for a train, taking an important phone call or clearly dealing with something serious, maybe this is not your moment.
On the other hand, guys often stretch this idea until nobody is ever approachable.
“She’s looking at her phone.”
“She’s with a friend.”
“She’s ordering a drink.”
“She appears to be participating in society.”
You do not need a ceremonial invitation.
Use common sense. If the situation seems socially reasonable, go say hello and then let her response tell you whether she wants to continue.
3. Give Her an Easy Way to Say No
One of the biggest differences between confident and uncomfortable approaches is pressure.
You do not need to trap the interaction.
Do not block her path. Do not corner her. Do not keep pushing after she is clearly disengaged.
Approach, see what happens, and be willing to leave.
Ironically, knowing you can leave makes approaching easier too.
You are not walking over thinking:
“I must somehow make this work.”
You are thinking:
“Let’s see if we enjoy talking to each other.”
That is a much healthier frame.
4. Stop Treating the Opener Like the Main Event
A lot of men spend ninety percent of their mental energy on the first sentence.
Then she responds and they have no idea what to do.
Your opener matters far less than your ability to have a normal, engaging conversation afterward.
Listen to what she says. React to it. Share something about yourself. Have opinions. Joke when something genuinely strikes you as funny.
If you’re wondering what to do after the opener, read What to Say After You Approach Her.
The conversation should feel like two people meeting, not like you are conducting a field study on female behavior.
5. Read Patterns, Not One Tiny Signal
Do not panic because she looked away once.
And do not decide she is in love with you because she touched her hair.
Look at the overall pattern.
Is she contributing to the conversation?
Asking you things back?
Staying when she could easily leave?
Making eye contact?
Moving closer?
Responding positively when you flirt?
That matters more than trying to decode one microscopic body-language signal like you’re examining the Zapruder film.
I break this down further in How to Tell If a Woman Is Actually Interested.
6. Know When to Leave
If she keeps giving short answers, looking for her friends, turning away and doing nothing to continue the conversation, you do not need to rescue the interaction.
“Nice meeting you. Have a good night.”
Done.
That is not failure.
You approached someone you wanted to meet and found out the interest was not mutual.
Useful information.
What makes an approach creepy is often not the approach itself. It is refusing to accept the answer you’re getting.
The Best Approach Is Usually Simple
You see someone you want to meet.
You choose a socially reasonable moment.
You walk over directly.
You say hello.
Then you pay attention.
No elaborate routine required.
The deeper skill is becoming comfortable enough to do that consistently while staying calibrated to the person in front of you.
If approaching is the part where you keep freezing, start with Why You Freeze Before Approaching Women.
And if you want me beside you while you actually practice this in the real world, that is exactly what we do during my 3-Day In-Field Bootcamps.
Approach. See what happens. Learn from reality.
Much simpler than spending another six months trying to engineer the perfect first sentence.
Stop Reading.
Start Doing.
Real approaches, hidden-mic feedback in real time, and a complete rewiring of how you show up. Three days in Las Vegas with AG.
